Winn-Dixie associates brought their A-game to the kickball field as New Orleans region district 1 in Pensacola, Florida held its inaugural “Kickin’ it for Breast Cancer” associate kickball tournament to raise funds and awareness for the disease that affects so many women across the globe.

Associates and their families showed up eager for some friendly competition and to support the American Cancer Society of Pensacola in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Vendors including Keebler, Coke, Flowers and Frito Lay, sold concessions, with all proceeds contributing to District 1’s goal of raising $1,500 for Making Strides. Raffle tickets for coolers and grills were also for purchase to benefit the cause.

Associates were able to exceed their goal, raising $1,900 during the event.

“It was a hugely successful event,” said David Logan, district director, “Associates were able to come together outside of store walls for a great time and a great cause. Playing kickball really brought us all back to our childhood days.”

Cantonment, Florida Winn-Dixie Store No. 498 Store Director, Steve Gannon, and Service Area Manager, Ravin Williams, spearheaded the event, taking lead on preparing for 150 attendees and coordinating with vendors.

Their hard work paid off, as their team, Gannon’s Cannons, won tournament and took home a trophy to prove it. Those without a trophy didn’t leave empty handed – they got a fun-filled day with colleagues in support of great cause.

“We’re proud of everyone for stepping up to the plate, both on the field and to benefit Making Strides.” said Williams.

“And it was great to share the experience with associates District-wide,” Gannon added. “We have a feeling the event will be even more successful next year.”
