Girl Scout Daley Eisemann was selling cookies from a table in front of Winn-Dixie store No. 330 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. when she noticed that her smartphone was missing. A frantic search turned up nothing; someone had snatched it while she wasn’t looking.

But the store’s associates quickly stepped up to help her. On Feb. 17, Winn-Dixie representatives presented Daley with $500 to replace her missing phone. Winn-Dixie District Director Robin Castillo and Store Director Donnell McDonald were on hand to welcome Daley and her mother, Kim Eisemann-Byerly, back to the store to present her with the much-deserved gift.

Daley and her mother have been selling Girl Scout cookies at the Winn-Dixie store since Daley began the program as a Daisy in kindergarten five years ago, and they began working with McDonald three years ago during the annual cookie selling season. McDonald said he was thrilled to be able to help out a local family with such a long-standing dedication to his store.

“It felt great to be able to extend a helping hand to Daley, who has been learning responsibility and core values right outside of my store for many years,” he said. “We’d like to welcome Daley and her troop back to greet customers outside of our store, as they are a welcomed partner at Winn-Dixie.”

Daley and her troop were working to reach the sales goal of 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, which would earn her summer camp trip to learn about the environment. Daley’s mom was moved by Winn-Dixie’s gesture and says they have always enjoyed the friendly service and staff.

“We would like to thank Donnell and Winn-Dixie for their generous gift,” she said. “Daley and I have wonderful memories throughout our many years of being at the store and this really shows they care about their neighbors.”
