If you’re a frequent shopper of store No. 5280 in Abbeville, South Carolina, you‘re probably familiar with Jean Fleming.
It’s not just her friendly demeanor and love for the job that make her stand out – it’s also her extreme loyalty to BI-LO and her associate family over the last 28 years.
Fleming began her retail career more than 30 years ago at Ingles before coming to BI-LO in 1987 to help open the former location in Abbeville. She has been at store No. 5280 since 1992, serving in a variety of part-time and full-time roles across several departments. Currently, she works in the front end as a part-time checkout clerk.
Fleming says she has seen many changes over the years, but she’s always appreciated her fellow associates, meeting new people and taking care of customers’ needs.
“I enjoy what I do each day and try to be as friendly as I can to everyone I meet,” she said.
A local community newspaper recently recognized Jean by congratulating her anniversary and thanking her for her selfless and faithful service to the people of Abbeville.
“Jean is like a character on the television show ‘Cheers’,”said Gwen Harrison, director of BI-LO store No. 5280. “Everybody knows her name, and she knows our customers by name. She truly is a BI-LO staple.”
Fleming grew up in Abbeville Countyand currently resides in Antreville, South Carolina. She is one of four children, including a twin sister and two brothers. When she’s not at work, she enjoys shopping and traveling.
