Associates from the newly-remodeled BI-LO store No. 5442 in Irmo, S.C. celebrated the store’s new look by giving back to local families dealing with the trauma of pediatric cancer.

The store hosted a barbecue and Cruise-In event Sept. 17 to benefit Children’s Chance, a statewide organization in South Carolina whose mission is to improve the quality of life for families who have a child battling cancer.

Attendees browsed an array of classic cars displayed in the store’s parking lot, while grooving to tunes of the 70’s and 80’s from a live broadcast by Columbia’s 96.7 FM. Children in attendance got to play ininflatable bounce houses and other amusements.

One hundred pounds of barbecued meat was available for purchase prior to and during the event and all proceeds went to Children’s Chance. A total of $2,000 was raised for the organization.

“Our associates are dedicated to supporting our customers both inside and outside the store,” said Mike Dorroh, store director. “The event gave us the opportunity to showcase our upgrades, while helping support a local organization that does so much for the families in our community.”

Upgrades to the remodeled store include an expanded deli featuring a hot bar; flaming rotisserie; wing bar and custom sub sandwich station. The store also boasts an upgraded produce department, new service seafood counter with a lobster tank; new service meat counter with custom cuts, a new cheese shop and expanded wine and craft beer selection.

The store also has refreshed décor, new flooring and upgraded restrooms.
