Winn-Dixie district directors Jennifer Short and Mark Nyquist, along with dedicated associates, delivered more than 58,000 pounds of food to Children’s Hunger Project co-founder Bob Barnes to provide 25,000 weekend meals for hungry Brevard County school children.

Winn-Dixie stores in Central Florida teamed up Feb. 8 to provide weekend meals for hungry children in Brevard County.

As the grocery partner for the Children’s Hunger Project, Winn-Dixie delivered more than 58,000 pounds of food for the “World’s Largest Packing Event,” which resulted in more than 25,000 weekend meals packaged by 2,500 volunteers of all ages in just one day.

The food was purchased at Winn-Dixie, and more than 20 Winn-Dixie store directors and associates delivered and unloaded it by hand to the Clemente Center of the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.

“Winn-Dixie and the Children’s Hunger Project have partnered together for the past three years and that partnership has grown as their needs have grown,” said Winn-Dixie District Director Jennifer Short. “Our associates feel really passionate about the project and feeding children where they live, along with their neighbors and customers that shop in our stores.”
