As a neighborhood grocer, BI-LO and Winn-Dixie recognize the important roles each of our stores play in their local communities to make them better places to live, work and play.

Through the Charitable Giving Program, BI-LO and Winn-Dixie stores give back to their communities by providing customers with the opportunity to help local organizations most important to them.

Two districts were recently recognized for their outstanding contributions to their local communities through the 2013 program. Winn-Dixie’s Birmingham West District No. 7 and BI-LO’s Chattanooga East District No. 2 raised the most funds out of 47 districts for the 2013 charitable giving year.

Winn-Dixie’s Birmingham West District is made up of stores throughout greater Birmingham, Ala., and the surrounding areas. In 2013, the district raised more than $125,000 for organizations including The Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, the Susan G Komen North Central Alabama affiliate and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“I couldn't be more proud of the team and how committed they are to making a difference in their surrounding communities,” said Jason Hardy, district director. “When you combine a great community and our committed Winn-Dixie stores teams, it ignites a passion that will give back tenfold."

BI-LO’s Chattanooga East district is made up of stores throughout the greater Chattanooga, Tenn., area. The district collected the most funds across both banners, raising more than $140,000 in 2013 for organizations including Junior Achievement of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Susan G Komen Chattanooga, the Ronald McDonald House Charities and numerous local schools.

“We work hard to give back, because we know that together we can transform neighborhoods,” said Rodney Dillard, district director. “I am so proud of my team for their dedication and commitment to bettering their local communities, whether it’s through improving education, feeding the hungry or enhancing the lives of our children.”
