BI-LO stores throughout the East District of Greenville, South Carolina teamed up with the South Carolina Youth Bass Fishing League to give area high school students an extra incentive to reel in the big catch.
Multiple teams representing 15 local high schools hit the waters of Lake Keowee, South Carolina, on Nov. 7 for the Boiling Springs High School Bulldog Bite Fishing Tournament to compete for bragging rights and an opportunity to fish in a national championship. Teams consisted of two high school anglers and an adult captain, and there was an average of 123 boats on the water at any one time during the tournament.
As an extra incentive, the Greenville East District created the BI-LO Bonus Bucks program to award $200 in BI-LO gift cards to the team with the best fishing weight and a BI-LO receipt showing a purchase of $25 or more.
“The BI-LO Bonus Bucks program was a creative way for us to support local students, while bringing shoppers into our stores,” District Director Tommy Brown said. “It’s been a big hit with moms, who have gotten out of bed at 5 a.m. to bring their son’s receipt so they qualify to win. Everyone really appreciates BI-LO’s support.”
Stores across the district have been raising funds to purchase gift cards through sidewalk cookouts, with each store raising $50 to support the program.
