BI-LO store No. 5580 in West Columbia, S.C. recently presented a $2,000 check to the March of Dimes Midlands division from funds raised through BI-LO store customers via the community donation program. BI-LO has a rich history of giving back to the communities they serve, but this particular donation hit home for BI-LO Store No. 5580 Director Scott McCaffrey.

McCaffrey and associates chose to raise money for the March of Dimes Midlands division after experiencing firsthand the mission of the March of Dimes when McCaffrey’s own son, Ethan, was born 12 weeks early, weighing only 2 pounds and 8 ounces at birth. Scott and his wife, Jenny, relied heavily on the March of Dimes for support while Ethan was kept in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 51 days.

Scott and Jenny stood with their now 3-year-old healthy son, Ethan, to share their story in front of the local community and members of the media who were in attendance for the presentation. The two described Ethan’s birth as “nothing short of a miracle,” and explained how terrifying it was for their entire family.

“We hope that funds raised will help this incredible organization continue to support local families like they did ours,” said McCaffrey.

“The support of our community is so important and we are very grateful for the continued generosity and commitment that BI-LO has given to the March of Dimes,” March of Dimes Midlands Division Director, Ashley Lamb said.
