Chanukah, also known as Festival of Lights, took place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5 this year. To help spread holiday joy, three kosher Winn-Dixie stores joined with community organizations by presenting family activities, participating in charitable events, joining holiday celebrations and more.

Winn-Dixie store No. 355 Store Director Eddie Eisenscher worked with the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County to help ‘Bake A Difference’ by donating 1,200 kosher cookies to be distributed to local Jewish families. Eisenscher also teamed up with Young Israel of Deerfield Beach, providing Chanukah platters for their holiday events.

“We are thrilled that our store kicked off our partnership with the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County by taking part in such a wonderful Chanukah activity,” said Eisenscher. “This is a special time of year and we are thankful that we get to work in our community to help make their holiday a memorable one.”

On Dec. 1, Winn-Dixie store No. 366 Store Director Fran Hernandez teamed up with Chabad Emerald Hills during the annual Chanukah Wonderland celebration. The event celebrated the Jewish holiday with the lighting of a gigantic balloon Menorah, children’s activities and more. Winn-Dixie associates were on hand, passing out delicious kosher bakery treats that caught the eye of children and parents alike.

“We are very grateful that we were able to celebrate Chanukah with our Jewish neighbors,” said Hernandez. “Everyone had a great time and Winn-Dixie was the talk of the event as we satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth with our kosher bakery items.”

Store No. 326 in Tamarac, Fla. took part in two Chanukah celebrations Dec. 2, supporting Chabad of Tamarac and Chabad of Coral Springs. Alex Schwartzman, the store’s Mashgiach (kosher supervisor), greeted 150 Kings Point Adult Community residents and their families with Winn-Dixie latkes and kosher donuts during a Chanukah gathering with the Chabad of Tamarac’s Rabbi Mendy Engel. Across town, Store Director Anthony Ordonez and Winn-Dixie were recognized as a sponsor of the Coral Springs community’s Chanukah celebration at Coral Square Mall. More than 300 area residents enjoyed jelly donuts from the store’s kosher bakery, a Menorah lighting, children’s storytelling, dancing and more.

“Participating in these community events is a great way for the store team to show support for our Jewish neighbors during the holidays,” said Ordonez. “All of the attendees really enjoyed having Winn-Dixie at their Chanukah celebrations and we received rave reviews on our kosher donuts and latkes.”

On Dec. 3, Winn-Dixie partnered with South Florida Chabads to sponsor Jewish Heritage Night at American Airlines Arena. Store No. 291 Store Director Cory Weissman and four store associates provided complimentary kosher cookies to more than 5,000 Jewish fans during the event, which also included a Grand Menorah Lighting at center court of a Miami Heat basketball game. Winn-Dixie was announced as a proud sponsor of Jewish Heritage Night throughout the game.

“Being a sponsor of Jewish Heritage Night was a great experience and we were able to show off our kosher bakery line to thousands of South Florida residents,” said Weissman. “We had hundreds of attendees personally thank us for our participation in the event; it was a very proud moment for our store and we can’t wait to participate in the future.”
