Cantonment, Florida Winn-Dixie No. 498 Director Steve Gannon says he believes strongly in his associates, his store’s community, sales and creative, innovative store displays. All those things showed especially well recently as he received his third President’s Club award.
This year, his leadership brought him more than that. While at the 2014 President’s Club event in Orlando, Florida April 30, he found out that he was a finalist for the Food Marketing Institute’s (FMI) Store Manager Award, a prestigious national award recognizing supermarket store managers who generate sales growth, provide great customer service, contribute to company goals and are integral parts of their communities.
Over the last year, Gannon has hosted multiple community events, including school field trips and career days. Customer appreciation day events that he’s known for have included pumpkin-carving contests and kickball tournaments. He often recognizes store associates by hosting surprise luncheons for his team. Gannon is one of three finalists in his category – stores in chains of 200 or more, and one of 10 in all FMI Store Manager Award categories.
As a finalist, Gannon is eligible for another award – and associates, store customers and anyone else can help him win it. During the week of May 18, FMI will post the 10 store director profiles to the FMI Facebook page. The finalist who receives the most “Likes” will receive the People’s Pick award trophy and $500 to use to celebrate with store associates. Click here to like Gannon's page.
I’m very excited about the FMI Store Manager of the Year nomination and it will be an incredible experience in my career that I will never forget,” Gannon said about his upcoming trip to the FMI Connect event in Chicago June 10. The 10 finalists will be narrowed to four winners, who will be announced at the event.
