With the generous support of customers, 52 Winn-Dixie stores in three districts in the Miami area raised more than $36,000 for the Miami Children’s Hospital.
In the first “scan program” effort for 2014, the scope was expanded from one district last year and the effort raised 35 percent more than last year.
Miami Children’s Health Foundation Director of Corporate and Major Gifts Adolfo Lopez and Development Director Melissa Wetzel visited every Winn-Dixie store that took part in the program, hand-delivering signage and materials while personally meeting with store directors. Wetzel says they were thrilled to show their gratitude to Winn-Dixie associates who were taking part in the scan program.
“We are thankful for Winn-Dixie’s dedication to expanding the community’s awareness of Miami Children’s Hospital during this year’s scan program, so we wanted to personally show our appreciation by visiting each store,” she said. “With this donation, Winn-Dixie is touching the lives of thousands of families who rely on Miami Children’s Hospital every year to make sure they get the care they need.”
Along with in-store campaigns to rally customers, District Director Jorge Cabo and his store directors were able to pay a visit to Miami Children’s Hospital’s Palmetto Bay Outpatient Center. Cabo said he believes the visit allowed his team to see the wonderful work and positive impact their partner has on the community, resulting in his district raising nearly $24,000.
“I am extremely proud of our store directors for embracing this scan program and engaging their customers to donate to the Miami Children’s Hospital,” he said. “Both Winn-Dixie and the Miami Children’s Hospital have tremendous ties to our community and its local families who are going to benefit from this successful partnership.”
