Winn-Dixie stores in New Orleans district Nos. one and two have proudly supported Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for years. And on Oct. 26, associates in those districts teamed up for breast cancer awareness by participating in walks taking place in Pensacola and Mobile.

Winn-Dixie associates in Pensacola, Fla. participated in the Making Strides walk in their area, strutting side-by-side with more than 12,000 other community supporters, reminding everyone that even though great strides have been made in the battle against breast cancer, there is still a long way to go. Store Director Monroe Watley from store No. 556 was one of the Winn-Dixie representatives attending the Making Strides walk.

“This is an incredible event that positively impacts the community,” Watley said. “Our team is very happy to be a part of an event that benefits a great cause.”

In Mobile, Ala., associates supported their local Making Strides walk as well. Decked in pink, more than 200 associates from throughout the district came out and walked for a purpose while helping to educate the community about breast cancer awareness. This event was another way to represent a solid partnership with Making Strides, an organization greatly supported by this district.

“We’ve been partnering with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer since its inception six years ago, and we truly feel like we’re making a difference,” said Lynn Rushing, Mobile District Director.

Winn-Dixie associates from both districts dressed in festive attire and helped to inspire those who are battling the disease to continue their fight. The Mobile district has raised more than $175,000 for Making Strides against breast cancer over six years, Rushing said.

“My district is the flagship sponsor of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” said Rushing. “It’s an honor to take part in this walk and come together as a company and a community to end this disease, one step at a time.”
