Winn-Dixie store No. 1588 in Destrehan, Louisiana, was buzzing with the sights, sounds and tastes of a New Orleans tailgate on Jan. 10.

The “Taste of Tailgate” event was in celebration of the store’s recently enhanced look, with new deli, bakery and seafood departments, a new drive-through pharmacy, expanded natural and organics and wine and liquor offerings, as well as refreshed decor and new flooring.

“We wanted to host an event that would resonate with our neighborhood,” said Morris Soudelier, store director at Winn-Dixie store No. 1588. “We’re all Saints fanatics around here, so we thought, what better way to cater to the Destrehan community than by offering the savory flavors of football season?”

On the day of the event, the remodeled store transformed into a high-energy tailgate party. Mike Magahe, meat market manager, provided live music, and the Destrehan High School dance team put on a performance for attendees. The event also featured a cupcake buffet, which was a huge hit among shoppers, young and old.

The event culminated with a check presentation to the American Cancer Society. The Winn-Dixie New Orleans Region was committed to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community donation program and was proud to be able to contribute a total $175,252 to the organization’s cause.

“We are lucky to serve such generous communities throughout the New Orleans Region footprint,” said Mohamed Abul-Hawa, district director. “Together with our customers, we are helping the American Cancer Society get that much closer to winning the battle against breast cancer.”

A very special VIP also attended “Taste of Tailgate” – Saints Running Back, Khiry Robinson -- who took time to autograph sports paraphernalia and to pose for pictures with fans.
