Winn-Dixie recently began a new partnership with the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in South Florida to help welcome 7,500 youth athletes from around the world to the opening ceremony of the 2015 JCC Macabbi Games Aug. 9 at the BB&T Center.

The annual Olympic-style competition, which began in 1982, brings teams of athletes ages 12-17 from various countries, including Canada, Mexico, England, Israel and others in a celebration of health, physical fitness and Jewish culture. It’s the largest Jewish youth event in the world, and Winn-Dixie provided event attendees with kosher black-and-white cookies, a traditional kosher treat available at several South Florida Winn-Dixie stores.

The weeklong Maccabi Games took place at several venues throughout Broward County. As competitors participated in individual and team sports, they also experienced local culture during their stay with host families in South Florida.

The event also provided an opportunity to show support for the kosher-keeping South Florida community, welcome Jewish visitors from around the globe, and remind communities they can find hundreds of everyday kosher items at Winn-Dixie stores.

David Posnack JCC CEO Scott Ehrlich says he is proud to have Winn-Dixie as a partner to celebrate Jewish culture and the betterment of youth around the world.

“The Maccabi games is a treasured experience for these athletes and Winn-Dixie’s gift of black and white cookies during our opening ceremony was a thoughtful universal symbol of their heritage,” he said. “Thousands of visitors were able to see the dedication Winn-Dixie has to the South Florida Jewish community.”
