FiveSouth Florida Winn-Dixie stores were nominated for “Partner of the Year” honors in their respective school districts for their commitment to education during the 2013-2014 school year.

To celebrate their achievements, store directors from store Nos. 311, 330 and 757 were recognized at the Broward County School District’s 2014 Community Involvement Award Breakfast April 9, while store Nos. 287 and 385 were honored during the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Community Partners Recognition Luncheon May 9.

Winn-Dixie Miami Region Vice President Tony Jorges praised the store directors for continuing to support their neighborhood schools and for being at the forefront of the counties’ educational partner programs.

“Being involved with these programs provides an opportunity for our associates to help shape the future leaders in our community,” he said. “The nominations these stores have received are a tremendous honor, and they have earned it by being an invaluable resource to the students, staff and families they serve.”

For the second consecutive year, Store Director Eli Manresa and his team at store No. 311 in Davie, Fla. were selected by Fox Trail Elementary School for their continued efforts. Manresa has made great strides on his strong relationships with both school staff and PTA members, routinely attending school meetings and hosting activities at his store. Recently, Manresa and his team furthered their partnership with Fox Trail Elementary School by welcoming staff and families to the store for a successful Math Night event.

Store No. 330 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. was again nominated by Westwood Heights Elementary School for continued support of students and staff. Store Director Donnell McDonald and Pricing Manager Tia Mulgrave have expanded the store’s involvement through Jr. Cake Decorator fundraising events while continuing to provide platters during school visits. The arrival of a new principal at Westwood Heights Elementary School did not deter McDonald and Mulgrave, who recently attended and provided refreshments for a talent show at the school.

Store Director Donald Durham and his team at store no. 757 earned their nomination by working tirelessly to earn the trust of Central Park Elementary School. After many visits to the school and kicking-off the partnership in 2013, Durham has established a tremendous relationship with school administrators and has hosted a variety of in-store activities that continue to grow in popularity, including a recent Art Night and store tour field trip.

In Miami-Dade County, Winn-Dixie store No. 287 Store Director Luis Rodriguez, store No. 385 Store Director Clive Lindo and Community Involvement Specialist Farrah Shoukry were honored for their support of their school partners. While Rodriguez and Lindo were nominated by Herbert A. Ammons Middle School and Irving and Beatrice Peskoe K-8 Center, Winn-Dixie was also recognized for being the Award Sponsor for the afternoon’s ceremony, as well as their overall involvement in the Dade Partners Program.
