Winn-Dixie teamed up with the Urban League of Broward County to kick off its ‘Good Eats’ initiative to promote healthy eating throughout the community. Winn-Dixie and Chef Chad Cherry welcomed more than 60 kids and family members to an educational cooking demonstration featuring Winn-Dixie Own Brand products.

Chef Cherry, an ambassador and volunteer diabetic chef with the American Diabetes Association – Miami, demonstrated a variety of nutritional meal options. He explained how using tri-color vegetable rotini and reducing the amount of cheese could increase the nutritional value of traditional home-style dishes and help prevent certain diseases, such as diabetes. Chef Cherry continued his demonstration with healthy recipes for mashed sweet potatoes and turkey sliders, and he told attendees of the benefits of Winn-Dixie offerings, such as the weekly ad, BOGOs and Make-a-Meals. Urban League of Broward County Vice President of Programs Courtnee Biscardi praised Winn-Dixie for helping tp promote the benefits of a healthier community.

“We are so grateful to begin our partnership with Winn-Dixie by educating our neighbors about the benefits of leading a healthier lifestyle through food education,” she said. “Knowledge is power when it comes to creating a healthier community, and we couldn’t be more proud to work with Winn-Dixie to spread information that can potentially save lives.”

Winn-Dixie and the Urban League of Broward County will continue the ‘Good Eats’ initiative, which kicked off in February in recognition of Black History Month, with healthy store tours throughout the year, focusing on hands-on, educational walkthroughs that spread the message of healthy eating in urban communities.
