Danfoss, a manufacturer of high efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration, presented Bi-Lo Holdings with its “EnVisioneer of the Year” award Nov. 19.

The award, which Danfoss gave for the fourth year, recognizes customers who achieve significant cost and environmental savings.

Danfoss announced that since its control systems were installed in Winn-Dixie stores, there has been a reduction of more than 53.4 million kilowatt hours over the past two years – a savings of more than $5.3 million. The company also has reduced its annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 41,000 metric tons, which would have the same effect as removing 7,600 cars from the road or planting about 9,400 acres of trees, Danfoss noted.

“We’re extremely pleased to recognize Winn-Dixie’s efforts and dedication to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility,” said Danfoss Electronic Controllers and Services Senior Vice President Jim Boyle. “Delivering food to consumers is an extremely energy-intensive process, and this latest project from Winn-Dixie proves that innovative engineering combined with strong commitment and vigilance can have a noticeable – and financial – impact.”

“We are excited to see the initial results of our efforts and are honored to be recognized with this award,” said Jim Vannan, energy management director for Bi-Lo Holdings. “It is important to Winn-Dixie that we take steps and implement resources to help reduce energy use and focus our efforts on running an efficient, safe and healthy business.”
