Education across the country is experiencing budget cuts and teachers in South Carolina also face that reality. Recognizing the needs in local schools, Randy Ellison, district director for the Greenville West District, and his 12 store teams donated more than $5,000 in supplies to Gettys Middle School in Easley, S.C. and Concrete Primary School in Powdersville, S.C.

“Many of the teachers and parents are loyal BI-LO customers and many of our associates send their kids to these schools,” Ellison said. “We understand the struggles teachers are facing on a daily basis and our stores felt compelled to help children in the Greenville market to have the opportunity to learn and grow.”

The BI-LO stores pooled funds designated for community outreach and purchased $5,000 worth of school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, calculators, markers and other resources needed for children to succeed in the classroom.

Both schools were chosen as recipients because of the significant need and tremendous impact the donation would make. A majority of the supplies were given to Gettys Middle School, which serves twice as many students as most middle schools in the area, and many of the school’s students are lower-income children.
