A record-setting12 South Florida Winn-Dixie stores helped local families celebrate Mother’s Day weekend by hosting Jr. Cake Decorator events with their school partners.

Each store provided five-inch cakes and jumbo cupcakes for children to purchase and decorate, creating personalized treats for their moms. Thanks to the hard work of dedicated bakery associates and the support from their partners and PTA Boards, Winn-Dixie will be donating more than $8,400 from the pastry sales back the participating schools to help purchase much-needed supplies and fund special projects.

It was the first Mother’s Day Jr. Cake Decorator program for nine of the participating stores, including Winn-Dixie store No. 381 and Store Director Phil Lutz. Lutz and his associates teamed up with Glades Day School in Belle Glade, Fla., and he said that the response he received from students and parents for their efforts was unbelievable.

“Being able to work with the school to make sure the kids had a truly special and personal gift to give their mothers for the holiday was very heartwarming,” said Lutz. “I’m thrilled to have been involved in a program that has put smiles on families’ faces, as well as do our part to support the students’education.”

From principals to PTA members, Winn-Dixie associates teamed up with school staff and parents to help students ice their personal pastries. Coconut Palm Elementary School Reading Coach Colleen Cottam was elated with the support she received from Winn-Dixie store No. 250 in Miramar, Fla.

“I can’t say thank you enough to Winn-Dixie for making sure our Mother’s Day decorating was a huge success,” said Cottam. “The students truly enjoyed their time decorating with Winn-Dixie.”

Winn-Dixie Miami Region Vice President Tony Jorges was thrilled to have so many stores take part in the second consecutive Mother’s Day program.

“I am very proud our stores showed their commitment to our community and education by utilizing such a fun and creative program,” he said. “Our associates did a fantastic job of highlighting Winn-Dixie’s bakery offerings, while helping students to put a special touch on their Mother’s Day gifts.”
