For more than 30 years, Winn-Dixie has supported Miami, Fla.-based La Liga Contra el Cancer (The League Against Cancer) in its effort to raise awareness and funds to support needy and uninsured cancer patients in South Florida.

More than 200 attendees, including TV network Telemundo’s Marianna Rodriguez, gathered Dec. 15 at Winn-Dixie store No. 243 in Hialeah, Fla. for the organization’s annual Christmas raffle. Event goers had a chance to win a variety of prizes, including a new car, a vacation to the Dominican Republic, a $2,500 Winn-Dixie shopping spree and more.

“Winn-Dixie’s support has been tremendous throughout the years, which is a true testament to their commitment to the community and our cause,” said Executive Vice President of La Liga Contra el Cancer Adriana Cora. “Thanks to the wonderful donations raised today, we will be able to continue to provide much-needed services and help alleviate suffering for those affected by cancer in South Florida.”

As volunteers sold tickets throughout the day, event-goers began to congregate as the drawing grew near. To add to the excitement, Telemundo’s Marianna Rodriguez was on hand to cover the big moment live as onlookers eagerly waited to hear their name called.

“We would like to thank La Liga and the community for helping make this event such a great success,” said Store No. 243 Director Maria Gonzalez. “Most everyone has been affected by this debilitating disease, so bringing South Florida residents together to help raise funds for local patients is the best holiday gift our store can be a part of.”
