Winn-Dixie store No. 287 in Miami strengthened its partnership with community neighbor Hammocks Middle School in a Family Night event Feb. 10.

In the midst of a school year filled with collaboration, the Family Night event was the first in-store activity between the store and the school, attracting more than 75 families to the store. Store Director Luis Rodriguez worked with Hammocks Middle School PTA and Lead Magnet Teacher Bea Llano-Scherker to coordinate an event that encompassed art, music and fundraising into an evening of fun.

Hammocks students wearing produce costumes shared their excitement about the school’s partnership with Winn-Dixie customers. Students guided their family members through the store, where their artwork was on display. Members of the Hammocks Middle School Band also treated shoppers to a live performance throughout the evening. Rodriguez said he was thrilled to grow his educational partnership with Hammocks Middle School and to show families that Winn-Dixie is a proud school partner and a neighborhood resource.

“I spoke with many parents who shopped at our store that day because they heard we were supporting Hammocks Middle School,” said Rodriguez. “Our customers really enjoyed seeing the students and their families fill the store and share their enthusiasm for our partnership.”

Rodriguez and his team also showed their support of the Hammocks Middle School PTA, donating hot dogs, chips and refreshments that were sold to raise funds for various projects. Hammocks Middle School Principal Deborah Leal said the Family Night event was a great addition to their year-round partnership.

“We would like to thank everyone at Winn-Dixie for hosting our families during our Family Night,” she said. “Parents and customers shared their enjoyment of our students’ performances and artwork, and we all felt such a strong sense of community throughout the evening.”
