​The Jewish Community Center of New Orleans hosted another successful 5K with Winn-Dixie’s support. Winn-Dixie’s branded banner made for a great backdrop for photo ops during the event.

Clouds and a stray shower could not dampen the excitement at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center’s (JCC) Uptown Classic 5K Race on Feb. 1. Despite the overcast weather, hundreds of race-goers showed up to complete the course.

Winn-Dixie has supported the race for three consecutive years. This year, Heather Bond, Fresh Area manager, and associates at store No. 1430 spearheaded the sponsorship, making sure Winn-Dixie had a strong presence on the day of the race.

The dedicated team contributed to the event’s success by providing healthy snacks, as well as various kosher items, such as pancake batter, which was used in a cooking demonstration that highlighted a delectable kosher dish –“flapjacks” - topped with assorted fresh fruits from the Winn-Dixie produce department.

Winn-Dixie-branded tents and a large, wall-sized banner also made a statement during the race. The banner became a “selfie” hotspot, where runners got their pictures taken and race winners were recognized with awards.

Ashley Kirschman, director of development for the JCC, was thrilled with the event and Winn-Dixie’s contributions: “We’ve received so much positive feedback and know the support that Winn-Dixie gives makes that possible.”

“We look forward to building on our JCC partnership to include year-round opportunities that appeal to New Orleans’ Jewish community,” said Mohamed Abul-Hawa, Winn-Dixie district director. “Together with the JCC, we can expand our offerings to kosher-seeking customers. Soon we hope to host more customized in-store events, holiday festivities and educational programs to meet the needs of our Jewish community.”
