Winn-Dixie stores in the Montgomery, Alabama region, which includes Alabama, Southern Georgia and the Florida Panhandle, recently donated $46,260 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA).

Donations came from store associate efforts to encourage customers to donate to the organization through the regional Community Donation Scan Program.

Breast Cancer survivor Dolly O’Neal and Bruce Sokol, whose wife has received breast cancer treatment, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabamain 1996 in an effort to help fund aggressive research to find a cure for a breast cancer, which affects one of every eight women in their lifetime.

Since its inception, BCRFA has raised more than $4.5 million for breast cancer research through fundraising efforts and donations from companies like Winn-Dixie.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Winn-Dixie leadership and patrons, clearly demonstrated through their commitment to raise funds in support of breast cancer research,” said O’Neal.

Montgomery Region District Directors Jim Rossetti and Eugene OKorley attended a recent BCRFA board meeting on behalf of Winn-Dixie to present the donation and to express support for the BCRFA in the communities we serve.

“We are pleased with the response from our customers to support this worthy cause,” said Tim Flavin, Montgomery regional vice president. “We’re honored to support wonderful organizations like Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. The Winn-Dixie Community Donation Program provides a simple but essential way to tackle critical issues in our neighborhoods and we believe we can make a difference.”
