“Pink Day,” which Winn-Dixie store no. 171 in Williston, Fla. hosted Sept. 28, began as an event to promote the Community Donation Program supporting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization’s fight against breast cancer, but it turned into much more.

Store director Eric Taylor and associates turned their store pink by adding Pink Day signage. Associates decked out in pink clothes, and cashier Alexa Acosta sold pink cupcakes for a $1 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“Everyone knows someone affected by cancer so it hit home with a lot of us,” stated Taylor. “We have two associates who are breast cancer survivors, so the cause is especially important to our store.”

Store No. 171 Seafood Lead Judy Morgan and deli associate Leola Brewton both are breast cancer survivors. The pink day was a great success for the store and a number of customers told store director Eric Taylor that they supported the store associates’ efforts to help the efforts of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure organization.
“I learned a lot about how individuals in my community have been affected by breast cancer,” said Taylor. “It was a memorable day getting to know and learning more about the customers we serve.”
The Community Donation Program benefitting Susan G. Komen continues through Oct. 22. During that time, cashiers will ask customers at check-out if they would like to make a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
