Southeastern Grocers recently helped hundreds of customers celebrate Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, with several holiday-inspired activities. By partnering with Jewish community organizations and kosher food celebrity Jamie Geller, Southeastern Grocers was able to help shoppers enjoy the holiday.
Southeastern Grocers continued a longstanding partnership with Jamie Geller, collaborating on a kosher e-book highlighting the importance of oil throughout the history of Chanukah. Customers could download the e-book with more than 20 non-traditional, kosher fried foods from around the world that add a burst of flavor to any holiday gathering.
To make Chanukah extra special for Winn-Dixie customers in Boca Raton, Florida, Geller made a special appearance at store No. 355 on Nov. 30 in partnership with the Levis and Rose Jewish Community Center. Geller prepared several of her recipes for more than 400 happy fans, and she took the time to meet and greet with every attendee, posing for photos and signing copies of her latest cookbook.
The Boca Raton, Florida, store continued to celebrate the holiday with neighbors Dec. 8 during a Menorah-building event in partnership with Friendship Cirles, a Jewish organization focused asisting special needs members of the community. Along with helping children build their own Menorahs from scratch, the store provided kosher donughts and pizza and was recognized by Rabbi Shmuey for their dedication to the Jewish community.
BI-LO joined forces with the Chabad of Charleston (South Carolina) and the College of Charleston Dec. 6 for the Chabad’s 11thChanukah in the Square celebration.
The family-oriented celebration takes place in the heart of downtown Charleston. The event, which draws about 1,000 attendees from around the state, is considered to be the largest annual Jewish event in South Carolina. It offers kid-friendly crafts, music, inflatable slides and dancing.
Chabad of Charleston’s Rabbi Yossi Refson recognized local Holocaust survivors and led the traditional lighting the menorah during a prayer ceremony celebrating the first night of Chanukah. Veteran Mayor of Charleston Joe Riley and his newly-elected successor, John Tecklenburg, took the stage along with BI-LO District Director Jason Jackson to thank the crowd for attending the event.
BI-LO returned for the third time as the event’s presenting sponsor and sampled favorite kosher foods while providing information about kosher offerings. Also sampled were six Chek Soda flavors, with orange and cream soda the crowd favorite. BI-LO also offered samples of Bissli in pizza and barbeque flavors. The booth also gave away an autographed copy of Jamie Gellar’s Joy of Kosher Cookbook, coloring books for children and red BI-LO reusable bags.“The event would not be the same without BI-LO’s dedication and creative approach to involvement,” Refson said. “BI-LO’s support of the event was noticed by all.”
