BI-LO stores in Chattanooga, Tenn. and the surrounding area participated in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga’s (RMHC) annual live telethon event on March 7.

Each year, the four-hour prime time telecast is hosted on local ABC affiliate, News Channel 9, and showcases stories of local families, volunteers and businesses -- such as BI-LO -- that help to move forward the organization’s mission of serving families with critically ill and injured children.

BI-LO Store Directors Bill Abline and Roger Kirby presented representatives of RMHC with a check for more than $64,000 from funds raised through BI-LO’s 2014 in-store Community Donation Program.

During the live event, the organization received an additional $14,000 in donations, making it a record-breaking year in pledges.

The Chattanooga Ronald McDonald Houseis a 26-bedroom facility that serves as a “home away from home” each year for approximately 500 families with critically ill or injured children undergoing inpatient and outpatient treatment at nearby Chattanooga hospitals and for cancer patients being treated in Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic.
