Dale Earnhardt Jr. may not have won the The Bank of America 500 on Oct. 11 at Charlotte (North Carolina) Motor Speedway but, he did celebrate a milestone birthday with a little help from BI-LO and hundreds of NASCAR fans.

Hours before the race, BI-LO teamed up with Ragu to host a birthday pit party to celebrate the racing legend’s 40th birthday. Fans signed a giant birthday card at the Ragu and BI-LO booths in the Fan Zone, while country music singers Parmalee and Jimmy Wayne took the stage.

After a heavy downpour that halted festivities for an hour, the star of the night made an appearance where he participated in a question-and-answer session with defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson before being presented with his oversized birthday card by BI-LO Regional Vice President Sam Blaiss.

Dale, we know your fans are very important to you, and by the looks of this card, you have a lot of them here with you today,” Blaiss said to Earnhardt in front of a crowd of screaming fans. “On behalf of BI-LO, Ragu, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans everywhere, we want to wish you a very, happy 40thbirthday. We hope it’s your best year yet!”

Popular country music group The Band Perry closed out the celebration with an hour long performance.

The No. 4 car’s Kevin Harvick won the race with No. 24 Jeff Gordon finishing second. No. 1 Jamie McMurray came in third.
