Associates from store No. 1479 in Long Beach, Miss. took part in the annual “Taste of Long Beach” event Sept. 7 at the Long Beach Harper McCaughan Town Green.

"The Taste of Long Beach,” promoted by the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, attracted more than 500 for food, fun, friends and family. Ticket sales proceeds benefited local business grants and school scholarships.

The event gives local food businesses a chance to show off their menu items with samples. Store No. 1479 was the only business not a restaurant invited to participate.

The store gave away hundreds of Winn-Dixie-branded mini cutting boards to guests who came to the Winn-Dixie booth. Participants were seen using the boards to carry foodand drinks.

“Our booth, food and cutting boards were the talk of the event,” said Store Director Darren Thornton. “We were able to talk to many of our customers and make many new friends and customers through this event.”

The store highlighted the offerings from its departments. Store No. 1479 Deli Manager Brian Stanley offered double-battered fried chicken, brisket and Winn-Dixie barbeque baked beans. The store’s meat and seafood department provided delicious boiled shrimp. Bakery Manager Christina Hochhalter sampled a variety of sweets from petit fours to fall items, including pumpkin cream cake. She also showcased pictures of cake decorating designs created by the store’s cake decorators. Lastly, the floral department designer, Ann Moran, displayed gorgeous arrangements of flowers and corsages.

Store No. 1479 had support from local vendor Kajun Kettle, who provided samples of Jambalaya and andouille/tasso penne.
