It's crawfish season in New Orleans, and Winn-Dixie is serving up some of the season’s best by participating in festivals throughout the Gulf Coast.
Recently, three districts in the region took part in crawfish cook-offs. In Gulfport, Mississippi, the Crawfish Music Festival showcased Winn-Dixie’s offerings in a fair-like atmosphere featuring carnival rides, delicious food and fun giveaways, including Winn-Dixie prizes and coupons. Associates from various stores came out to work the event and represent Winn-Dixie to the community.
“This is a very important event for us,” said Kate Speakes, Mississippi district director. “People from all over the Gulf Coast come out each year for this event, which takes place over two weekends. We are very proud to be a part of this Southern celebration.”
In Louisiana, two other festivals took place during the same weekend. Slidell, Louisiana hosted the Hospice Crawfish Cook-off, which benefited a great organization. This event featuring bands and a variety of local restaurants serving up their take on crawfish. Winn-Dixie provided a tasty and creative spin by adding asparagus and Brussels sprouts to the traditional blend of crawfish, corn and potatoes.
“This is the third annual year that we have participated in this great event that benefits the Hospice Foundation,” said Chip Turner, Louisiana Northshore district director. “Our associates love interacting with our customers outside the stores, especially for such a wonderful cause.”
Wrapping up the weekend of crawfish was the Saint Edwards Crawfish Feastival in Metairie, Louisiana. This fun-filled event brought out the community to celebrate and fill up on delicious crawfish and other local favorites.
