Eighteen BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie pharmacists were honored with 2014-15 Pharmacist of the Year awards in an Oct. 7 ceremony at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida.

“We have many, many exceptional pharmacists,” said Southeastern Grocers Vice President of Pharmacy John Fegan. “These are the stars of the stars.”

Fegan noted that the awards are given during American Pharmacists Month and that winners are chosen based on an objective mix of measurements, including customer service ranking, clinical services and medication therapy management, pharmacy financial performance and community involvement.

“Many are involved in church missions, nursing homes and community organizations—either because of their family, their interests or both,” said Fegan.

Since the introduction of the award, Fegan said winners have also provided critical information and feedback to pharmacy leadership by acting as a sounding board before programs and initiatives are rolled out.

It was the sixth time the company has honored its most outstanding pharmacists, and this year’s ceremony marked a first: Tracy Lemoine, R.Ph., of Winn-Dixie store No.599 in Fairhope, Alabama, became the first Southeastern Grocers pharmacist to win the award twice.

That’s a testament to Lemoine’s excellence, but also underscores the fact that a variety of pharmacists have been honored with the award over the years, Fegan said.

“We expect that each year the people who come close to making it will see that next year is their year,” he said.
