Winn-Dixie store No. 445 in Hoover, Ala. teamed up with St. Vincent's One Nineteen and Wellness Dietitian Donna Sibley (right) to supply customers with healthy recipes while they do their grocery shopping.

Finding healthy and inexpensive recipe options is now a lot easier for Inverness Corners Winn-Dixie shoppers in Hoover, Alabama.

The Winn-Dixie team at store No. 445 recently partnered with community health and wellness center St. Vincent's One Nineteen to host in-store cooking demonstrations to educate customers on eating healthy on a budget as part of the launch of Birmingham-area Winn-Dixie’s Lower Pricing program.

“We are pleased to partner with St. Vincent’s One Nineteen in conjunction with our Lower Pricing program,” said Jim Rosetti, Winn-Dixie’s district director for Birmingham. “We have lowered prices on thousands of items throughout the store making it easier for customers to shop for both healthy and staple products at a lower price.”

St. Vincent’s One Nineteen sought out the new Winn-Dixie store for a partnership in hopes of introducing people to healthy recipe options at the source – where they shop for food.

“The new and modernized Inverness Winn-Dixie is in a central location and we felt it would be a great place to present our recipes to a large audience,” said St. Vincent’s One Nineteen Wellness Dietitian, Donna Sibley. “We want to help people make smarter choices when it comes to food, and we make it a priority to create healthy, but low-cost recipes for our demonstrations.”

St. Vincent’s One Nineteen sets up themed cooking demos in Hoover’s Inverness Winn-Dixie store twice a month. Donna Sibley and her wellness team produce recipes based on the time of year and customer demand, including items that appear in the Lower Price program and week’s sale ad. Recipes have included healthy tailgating options as well as Thanksgiving sides and Christmas brunch ideas.

Winn-Dixie and St. Vincent’s One Nineteen encourage customers to attend the cooking demos and bring in their favorite recipes. Donna and her team will work with customers to lighten up those recipes and suggest healthier options.
