Winn-Dixie customers and associates kicked off St. Patrick’s Day weekend with a blarney blast celebration at store No. 54 in Jacksonville, Fla. March 15. Customers and their families enjoyed face painting fun with requests for rainbows and pots o’ gold. A Balloon Artist took twisting requests for green turtles, shamrocks and other creative characters.

Cookie decorating was also a popular activity for little leprechauns as they decorated sugar cookies fresh from the bakery with green icing designs and shamrock sprinkles. Other activities included free raffles where customers could try their “luck o’ the Irish” with scratch off lottery ticket prizes. The store also offered St. Patrick’s Day food favorites including corn beef and mini-rubens.

“We love celebrating holidays like St. Patrick’s Day with our customers and their families,” said Store Director Roger Hinote. “Our associates enjoyed getting into the holiday spirit and spending a day full of family fun with our customers.”

St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated for more than one thousand years to recognize the life of Saint Patrick. More than 100 St. Patrick's Day parades are held across the United States each year, and New York City and Boston are home to the largest celebrations.
