The Healthy Jacksonville Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition honored the Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation on Sept. 12 for the foundation’s support to educate children on healthy eating.

The Awards Breakfast took place at the WJCT radio and TV studio in Jacksonville, Florida, where the foundation received an Organization Leadership Award.

Thousands of local students have received vital education from THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health and its design to improve their diets. More than 1,900 students, ages 3-7 years old, have been exposed to the “I Can Eat A Rainbow” program, which teaches the importance of fruits and vegetables in their diets. Nearly 1,000 fourth and fifth grade students have received Mission Nutrition, which focuses on nutrition for growing bodies and overall health.

Pam Onstead, Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation Board Member and wife of CEO Randall Onstead, joined Brian Wright, Bi-Lo Holdings Vice President of Communications & Community, in accepting the award on behalf of the Foundation.

Other event activities included keynote speaker State Representative Mia Jones who discussed the importance of eating, moving and feeling to ensure healthy lifestyles. The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast also gave a fitness demonstration and had all attendees stand and join in the exercises as they celebrated healthy kids and active communities in Duval County, Florida.
