Giving back to the community and participating in community events is a priority for the Winn-Dixie store No. 2435 team in Plant City, Florida. The store raised more than $17,250 for local nonprofit organization Unity in the Community in support of its annual golf tournament.

Store Director Henry Falcon is on Unity in the Community’s board of directors and has participated in the golf outing for 13 years. Falcon has a strong desire to help his local community and instills that drive in his associates as well.

“I’ve always been a believer if you give back to the community just a little bit, you can make a difference in people’s lives,” said Falcon. “Ultimately, we want to make the city we call home a better place.”

Unity in the Community provides support to Plant City residents in need of help through food and monetary means. The organization also contributes to the betterment of the community by donating to the YMCA for its summer swim program targeted to prevent drowning and awarding scholarships to high school students who have displayed commitment to community service. All funds raised through the organization are used to benefit the community.

“We are sincerely thankful to Henry and his Winn-Dixie team for their gracious support of our organization,” said Linda Lawson, Unity in the Community chairperson. “We are grateful to have Winn-Dixie as a community partner.”
