Winn-Dixie No. 2441 and other local organizations set up tents on 56thStreet in Temple Terrace, Florida to take part in a global initiative to promote healthy and active lifestyles.

The movement is called Cyclovia and its based on the Spanish word for “cycle path.” The City of Temple Terrace closed down the street for a day to provide a safe and open area for families to run, bike and play together. It was the community’s first-ever, five-hour street party.

Winn-Dixie No. 2441 was the only supermarket that participated in the event. Store Director Dan Lefurge, associates and volunteers gave fresh-cut fruit to event attendees.

“The store got great exposure and everyone was raving about the fresh cut fruit and how refreshing it was on a hot day,” said Lefurge. “Many people made a point to stop and thank us for being part of this community event.”

Cyclovia had a variety of activities for people and families, including chalk drawing and temporary tattoos in the KIDZ Zone, classes for line dancing, yoga, Korean taekwondo and Taoist tai chi, and bike tours were also available.
