On the weekend of Feb. 20, the 2015 Bassmaster Classic fishing tournament was the talk of the town in Anderson, South Carolina. The associates at BI-LO store No. 5709 did not pass up the opportunity to show off their Southern hospitality.

The store welcomed 75 anglers and their families to their charming hometown with a welcome tote, featuring a $5 BI-LO gift card and vendor snacks from Nabisco, Lance, Frito Lay and Pepsi. BI-LO store No. 5709 Store Director John Alley and associates also left a note in the gift bags.

“We are just as passionate about our customers as you are fishing,” Alley wrote. “If there is anything we can do while you are here, please don’t hesitate to ask.”

Store No. 5709 didn’t stop there. During the week of the tournament, the store opened an hour early to accommodate fishermen and women who needed last-minute supplies -- even treating them to free coffee and donuts to help fuel their long day on the water.

Also, on Saturday of the tournament, the store planned to host a parking lot event for the anglers. Despite last-minute changes due to bad weather, associates put on a successful event, featuring local minor league baseball mascot, Reedy Rip’It, a crafty balloon artist and delicious samplings.

The store’s efforts did not go unnoticed. Anglers from as far away as Texas stopped by to show their appreciation for BI-LO’s friendliness.

“We were proud to give these families a sense of BI-LO’s friendliness,” Alley said. “Whether from down the street or from out of state, we hope our commitment to being a dependable neighbor helped make their tournament one for the books.”
