Students from the Suwannee County Schools Exceptional Student Education program, known as Candy’s Crew, received sweet surprises on April 30 -- including a $3,200 donation -- thanks to the collaborative efforts of Winn-Dixie store 198, the Live Oak Police Department and the Suwannee Correctional Institution.

Winn-Dixie held a barbecue fundraiser in the parking lot of the store April 25 to benefit the ESE students’ Summer Camp program and additional trips and experiences throughout the year.

Along with the donation, Winn-Dixie and community partners presented 14 Walt Disney World admission tickets to ESE teacher Candy Vickers and her students for their annual trip. When Candy’s Crew received the tickets, there were big smiles and happy tears as they thanked those who made it happen.

“Without the dedication of our store team, customers and community partners, our efforts wouldn’t have been as successful,” said Winn-Dixie Store Director Terri Bell. “We appreciate Ms. Vickers and all she does for the kids. Coming together for a great cause like this has an effect that lasts a lifetime.”
