Runners line up for the Monarch March race.

BI-LO store No. 5286 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina teamed up with local school Jennie Moore Elementary to host the sixth Monarch March and Fitness Fair March 21. The purpose of the fitness run and health fair is to increase awareness of fitness and nutrition while promoting wellness in mind, body and spirit.

More than 200 children and their families attended this year. The event kicked off with the fitness run for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. After the race, the health fair educated participants on the importance of health and fitness now and in the future.

Wando High School football players and Coach Jimmy Noonan assisted with the fitness run and health fair. The players spent the morning running and interacting with the Jennie Moore students and set a positive example by mentoring them on the importance of health.

BI-LO staffed several tents, where they promoted a positive healthy lifestyle by providing bananas, oranges and water for the children after the race. Children were also able to capture pictures with some of the BI-LO Walter Pals, Sue Berry and Blu Berry.

“Each year our store takes part in this wonderful health event for the local elementary school,” said BI-LO store No. 5286 Director Donny Taylor. “BI-LO has a strong focus on freshness and quality, and what better way to support a healthy and education-related event in the East Cooper community?”

BI-LO has been a proud sponsor of run and fair since its beginning and provided all the grocery necessities for this year’s event.
